How to Read a Medini Jyotish Report: Foundation Charts, Year Cabinet, Eclipses and Kurma Chakra

3 November 2026

Medini Jyotish is the branch of Vedic astrology that judges countries, states, cities, rulers, crops and weather rather than individuals. A mundane report can look overwhelming: foundation charts, year charts, eclipses, combinations, monthly bars and a map of regions. This guide explains each part of the Astrometry Medini Jyotish Report in the order it appears, what the classical rules behind it are, and how to read it with the restraint that mundane astrology needs.

Start with the right entity

Every mundane reading begins with a foundation chart, the moment a country or state came into being. The software offers three choices:

  • Country - 44 national foundation charts, from India (15 August 1947, 00:00, New Delhi) to neighbouring and world nations.
  • Indian state - foundation charts for 31 Indian states.
  • Custom - enter a name, founding date and time, latitude, longitude and UTC offset for any other entity.

Below your choice, the software shows the date and time used and a note about the chart. Many foundation times are disputed or conventional, and those charts are marked time uncertain. That flag matters: when the time is uncertain, the report itself reminds you that house-based readings carry less weight than eclipse, ingress and planetary-combination readings, which do not depend on the time.

Pick the city and the period

Year charts are cast for a city, chosen from a list of 20 Indian cities including New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Varanasi and Ujjain. Mesha Sankranti, Ardra Pravesh and eclipse visibility are calculated for that city. Then choose a from and to month; periods can run up to 20 years. All calculations use the sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa and mean nodes, on your own device.

Page one: where the pressure falls

The opening page summarises the whole period in five categories: War and conflict, Natural calamity, Epidemic and health, Economy and food and Government and politics. For each, it shows how many indications fall in the period and the strongest month. It also lists every year in the period with its samvatsara, King, Minister and rain forecast, and the nation's current Vimshottari major periods.

Read this page as a map of where to look, not as a set of predictions. A high count tells you that several traditional indicators cluster; the later sections tell you what they are.

The foundation chart and mundane houses

The full report draws the foundation chart with planetary positions and a table of the twelve houses: the sign on each house, where its lord is placed, and what the house signifies for a nation. A few examples from the rulebook:

HouseSignifies for a nation
1The nation, its people, general health and public mood
2The treasury, national wealth, banking and food stocks
4Land, agriculture, mines, housing, the masses and the opposition
6Armed forces, police, disease, debt and labour
7Foreign relations, treaties, war and declared enemies, trade partners
8Death rate, disasters, accidents and hidden crises
10The government, head of state, ruling party and national prestige
12Losses, expenditure, hospitals, prisons and foreign interference

If you already read personal charts, the logic is the same as in a step-by-step Kundli reading, applied to a collective instead of a person.

Year charts and the cabinet of the year

For each year in the period, the software casts the chart for the moment the Sun enters sidereal Aries (Mesha Sankranti) for your chosen city, and names the samvatsara, one of the sixty years of the Jupiter cycle. It then fixes the six officers of the year from weekdays:

OfficeFixed by the weekday of
Raja (King)Chaitra Shukla Pratipada
Mantri (Minister)Mesha Sankranti
Senapati (Commander)Simha Sankranti
Sasyesh (Lord of crops)Karka Sankranti
Dhanyesh (Lord of grain)Dhanu Sankranti
Meghesh (Lord of clouds)Ardra Pravesh

The weekday's lord becomes the officer. The King sets the tone of the year: Jupiter as king is read as dharma, prosperity and abundant crops; Moon as good rainfall and a contented public; Saturn as scarcity, unrest and delayed rains; Mars as fires, theft and uneven rain. If you want to compare this with a personal annual chart, see annual forecasting with Varshaphal, dasha and transits.

The monsoon reading

The Ardra Pravesh chart, cast when the Sun enters Ardra, is read for rain. The rulebook adds a point for each of: Moon in a watery sign, Venus in a watery sign, Jupiter in a kendra and a watery lagna, and subtracts one for Saturn in a kendra and for Mars in a kendra. A total of 2 or more is read as good, widespread rain; 0 to 1 as moderate rain with regional variation; -1 or less as deficient or erratic rain and heat. The report lists which factors applied, so you can see how the verdict was reached.

Eclipses, slow transits and national dashas

Eclipses are given heavy weight in the Samhita tradition, and the software scores a visible eclipse more strongly than one not visible from your city. Two eclipses within sixteen days (twin eclipses) are treated as a strong conflict indicator.

The transit section lists the sign changes of the slow planets and, alongside them, the nation's Vimshottari sub-periods with a short reading for each. A sub-period is flagged when its lord rules or occupies the 6th, 8th or 12th house of the foundation chart. Saturn's position from the national Moon is also reported in familiar terms such as Sade Sati, Kantaka Shani and Ashtama Shani; the Sade Sati guide explains those phases.

Calamity and conflict combinations

This section lists each traditional combination found in the period, the dates it is active and the categories it adds to. Examples from the rulebook:

CombinationTestTraditional reading
Mars-Saturn conjunctionSame sidereal signWar, violence, accidents, fires, earthquakes
Angaraka yoga (Mars-Rahu)Same signFires, explosions, riots
Saturn-RahuSame signEpidemics, chronic disease, mass hardship
Guru-Chandala (Jupiter-Rahu)Same signMisleading leaders, unrest over religion and finance
Jupiter-Saturn conjunctionSame signA new political and economic cycle
Graha yuddhaTwo of Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn within 1 degreeConflict between rulers
StelliumFour or more planets in one signUpheaval coloured by the sign's element
Rohini Shakata-bhedaSaturn or Mars in RohiniDrought, famine, distress

Retrograde Mars, Jupiter or Saturn and the debilitation of those planets also add weight. The element of the sign colours the reading: fire with heat and fires, earth with earthquakes and crop failure, air with storms and aviation, water with floods and maritime trouble.

Monthly intensity and sensitive moons

The monthly bar chart adds up the weighted indications active in each month, stacked by category. Use it to see when pressures cluster, then go back to the combinations and eclipses for what they mean. A tall bar is a reason to look closer, not a forecast of a specific event.

The sensitive new and full moons table lists the most heavily marked lunations with the Moon's nakshatra and its bhukampa mandala. Varahamihira groups the nakshatras into four mandalas: Vayu (wind, storms and crop damage), Agni (fire, heat and drought), Indra (good rainfall and milder effects) and Varuna (heavy rain and floods). If you are new to the stars, the nakshatra guide is a good primer.

Kurma Chakra: which regions are touched

The Kurma Chakra lays the land out as a tortoise, giving three nakshatras to the centre and to each of the eight directions. When afflicting planets or eclipses fall in a region's nakshatras, the report lists them in that region's box; regions without indications are shown as quiet. For India, the rulebook's approximate mapping includes:

  • Centre (Krittika, Rohini, Mrigashira) - the Ganga-Yamuna doab, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
  • East (Ardra, Punarvasu, Pushya) - Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Assam.
  • South (Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Chitra) - Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Sri Lanka.
  • West (Jyeshtha, Mula, Purvashadha) - Gujarat, Rajasthan and Sindh.
  • North (Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada) - Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand and the Himalaya.

The same star-based view of transits is developed further in the Sarvatobhadra Chakra reading guide, which is also used for mundane questions.

How to read the report responsibly

  • Weight time-independent factors first when the foundation time is uncertain: eclipses, ingresses and combinations before house readings.
  • Look for agreement. A month where an eclipse, a combination and a difficult national sub-period coincide deserves more attention than a single factor.
  • Keep entities separate. A country chart and a state chart can point in different directions; read each on its own terms.
  • Never use it for safety decisions. As the report's own disclaimer says, these are traditional rules applied mechanically. Astrology has no demonstrated ability to predict wars, epidemics or earthquakes, and the report must not be used for safety, emergency or financial decisions.

Online and Desktop access

The first page of the report is free to view. The complete report, with year charts, eclipses, transits, dashas, combinations, sensitive dates and regional indications, unlocks per report or with an annual pass, and is included with the Professional plan; it can then be downloaded as a PDF. Medini Jyotish is also available as a lifetime Desktop Edition that runs the same rulebook on your own device and works offline once installed. A shorter overview is in the Medini Jyotish software guide, setup steps are in the Desktop installation and activation guide, and current prices are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Medini Jyotish for a company or organisation?

You can enter any founding date, time and place with the Custom option. The interpretations, however, are written for nations and the public, so read them as traditional mundane indications rather than business advice.

Why does the year chart change when I pick a different city?

Mesha Sankranti, Ardra Pravesh and eclipse visibility are calculated for the chosen city, so the lagna of the year chart and the visibility weighting can change.

What does "time uncertain" mean for my report?

The foundation time is disputed or conventional. Planetary combinations and eclipses are unaffected, but house rulerships and the national dasha start date are less reliable.

Are the readings generated by AI?

No. Every reading comes from the supplied Medini Jyotish rulebook, built on classical Samhita sources, and is calculated locally from planetary positions.
