Encyclopedia of Graphology: Gestalt and Trait Methods Compared

Graphology has two main schools. Both are valid. They answer different questions.

The Encyclopedia of Graphology series by Saurabh Avasthi covers both. Volume I handles the Gestalt method. Volume II handles the Trait method.

The Gestalt method

Gestalt reads the whole page first. Space, rhythm, pressure and form are judged together. You get a picture of the person before you look at any letter.

Use it when you want a broad personality view. It suits screening and first impressions.

The Trait method

Trait work reads single strokes. A hooked t bar. A closed o. A heavy downstroke. Each sign carries a defined meaning.

Use it when you need detail on one behaviour, such as honesty, temper or drive.

Reading them together

Strong practice mixes both. Start with the whole page. Then confirm with strokes. A single stroke never decides a trait on its own. Look for three signs pointing the same way.
